GOLF & TENNIS
You will have your pick of three challenging and popular golf courses inside Palmetto Dunes. Each is designed to reflect the artistry of its designer while keeping the stunning Hilton Head Island setting in mind. Take a shot at the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. The George Fazio Course was constructed with the help of his nephew, fellow course-designer, Tom Fazio. To truly test your golf skills, play a round at The Arthur Hills Course, recently named Course of the Year in South Carolina. The course features rolling dunes that surely tested the now-legendary Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson when they played as collegiate golfers.
If tennis is your preferred game, you’re in luck. Within the gates, you’ll have a chance to play at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center—Rod Laver, which features 23 clay courts and two Nova ProBounce courts. The center offers a packed calendar full of seasonal events, instruction and tournaments. There are eight lighted courts so you can play day or night, depending on your schedule.
Private and Semi-Private Clubs:
- Arthur Hills
- The architect took full advantage of the natural dunes and created a rolling layout with dramatic elevation changes, to make it a visual treat for all golfers.
- George Fazio
- With just two par-fives on the course, Fazio has designed a layout where the front nine features open, tree-lined fairways and the back nine becomes tighter and more severe
- Robert Trent Jones
- The oldest course at Palmetto Dunes and is a long-time favorite on the island. This facility features an extensive lagoon system which winds through the course impacting play on eleven holes. Add some of Jones' seemingly patented bunkers and large, well-bunkered greens and you've got plenty of good golf ahead of you here.
